Overcoming Adversity – Dr. Shresia Kenney

Let me start off by saying that I do not like talking about myself but here goes. My name is Shresia Kenney and I was born in Opelousas, LA (it will be interesting to see who pronounced my hometown correctly). I moved to California when I was 23, after marrying my husband. I have lived in Compton, Long Beach and Lakes Elsinore; I currently reside in Corona. I have had the opportunity to be an educator for 17 years: 10 years as a science teacher, 6 years as an assistant principal and this is my 2nd year as a principal. It has been a pleasure to teach in both Compton USD and Val Verde USD, as well as gain administrative experience in Val Verde USD. Although growing up with the thought that I would NEVER be an educator; now I can truly say that I would NEVER want to do anything else. Finally, I have 5 degrees. A Bachelor’s in Microbiology from Louisiana State University; 3 Masters’ (Biology – California State University Dominguez Hills, Secondary Education – University of Phoenix, Clinical Psychology – Azusa Pacific University) and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University. The caveat to that is, “I don’t like school”.
